I WENT with committee member Ade Green to the River Severn at Loton Park on Tuesday, mainly to assess access for vehicles.

Although work has been carried out, it's possible only to enter one field - and there is four miles of fishing!

We need members who visit to give their verdict.

From there we travelled to our Warrington Angling Association-owned stretch of the river at Bicton, where access was good and a kind soul had strimmed the car park.

After a walk, we checked a member who was fishing and set about beating down the vegetation to our chosen swims.

I have to say Ade had 20 dace and small chub on stick-float and maggot over hemp, while I only managed four fish.

Colin Stott was there too, first trying the feeder before soon changing to stick-float and ending his session with 30 chub and dace taken on maggot and caster.

Working-party volunteer Rod Walker went to Offa’s Dyke Fisheries last week, and reports a catch of roach, hybrids, perch, and rudd taken on maggot.

It's an ideal spot for introducing a youngster to the sport.

Meanwhile Mike Pritchard fished a waggler and maggot on the River Mersey at Victoria Park, where he had a single bite after trying caster.

He ended a four-hour session with a tally of 10 roach, a hybrid, perch, and eight small chub ranging in size from 6oz to a pound.

The first Mersey Series match of a new river season was drawn at Mersey Walk on Sunday, when victor John Green targeted the skimmer bream.

They made up the bulk of his 8lbs taken on groundbait feeder and maggot.

Not far behind was runner-up Ray Boden, fishing his favourite pole and maggot tactics for a mixed net of skimmers, roach, and perch that weight 7-13-0.

Our match on Monday was fished on the Trent and Mersey Canal at Billinge where George Hollis, fishing bread punch and pinkie, put together a net of small roach for a winning weight of 3-10-4.

Lennie Dutton was second with a similar net of 3-8-4.

Keep sharing catch reports; they are always welcome and, more importantly, it's nice to let fellow members know how waters are fishing.
