JACK Hughes says The Wire must prepare to be tested mentally as well as physically by Toronto Wolfpack on Sunday afternoon.

Warrington collide with rugby league’s transatlantic trailblazers for the first time ever when the Canadian side visit The Halliwell Jones Stadium for their Challenge Cup sixth round tie.

Paul Rowley’s men are three points clear at the top of the Championship having won 11 of their 13 games in 2018.

With a quarter-final place at stake, Hughes knows the Wolfpack, who boast ex-Wire players Ashton Sims, Gareth O’Brien and Gary Wheeler in their ranks, must not be taken lightly.

“It’s a team we’ve never played before, so it’s something new,” he said.

“It will be a tough test for us as they are flying in the Championship.

“They have some very good players in their side and we have to be at our best for. We certainly won’t be taking them lightly.

“These games are mental tests as well as physical ones.

“We have to make sure we’re doing everything right in our preparation to make sure we perform to our best.”

The Wire will look to stretch their winning run to 10 games in all competitions on Sunday, with the latest coming in Friday’s 33-22 victory at Leeds Rhinos.

Second-rower Hughes, who was named in the England Knights performance squad in March, says the squad are doing their best to not pay attention to their unbeaten run.

“We’re very confident. The camp is buzzing at the minute,” he said.

“We’re enjoying it, we’re rolling well and long may it continue.

“We’re not looking at the winning run we’re on. We’re just trying to take it week by week and I think that’s helped us get on the roll we’re on.

“We’re back in the Challenge Cup this week and we want to nail it to keep ourselves going.”
