A WARRINGTON student is hungry for more England caps after featuring in his maiden international rugby match.

Harry Wilkinson represented his country for the first time in a win against Ireland.

The Priestley College student regularly plays for Chester, but was called up for the England County under 18s team.

“I missed out on selection originally so I was really pleased to be asked to play,” said the 6ft 5in forward.

“It means a lot to play for my country so it was amazing to be standing their singing the national anthem.”

Wilkinson, who studies BTEC Level 3 Sport at Priestley, trained for two days with the squad in Portsmouth ahead of the second Test match.

He played in the second half of the game, which saw England secure a narrow victory 32-29.

Wilkinson, a 16-stone flanker, has previously trained with Warrington Wolves and is determined to play at international level again.

He is training up to four nights a week in the gym, with two sessions on the pitch and a match, in order to achieve his goal.

“At the very least I want to play in the national league on a regular basis,” said Wilkinson, who attended Helsby High School.

“I plan to take a year out after college to work and then possibly go to university to study strength and conditioning.”

Nigel Howells, head of sport at Priestley, said: “We are very proud of Harry and of the fact we are able to support him through his studies as he continues to pursue his sport to the highest level.”
