DES Boyd took time off from his duties as a bailiff to squeeze in a session on Rixton Claypits last week.

He fished one of my favourite methods - groundbait feeder and maggot - but not using the now-conventional quiver tip.

Instead he opted for an even more delicate bite indication; a swing tip which offers little resistance to a fish.

The end result was half-a-dozen bream, all weighing in around 3½ to 4lbs.

Alan Biesty and his friends had a tough day at Grey Mist Mere last weekend after starting early in heavy rain.

Despite trying every trick in the book to tempt a tench, there was nothing doing.

In a last-ditch effort, he dropped his red-maggot offering with one silicone red maggot over the eye of the hook as an aligner close in under tree branches.

He immediately hooked into a carp but, despite playing it for a while, it slipped away.

A few more tench have been showing these past few days, possibly due to the improved weather.

If you want some roach action, then head to Appleton Reservoir and for smaller silvers, crucians and carp try Woodshaw Reservoir.

Meanwhile Statham Pool provides real variety, although it is a bit muddy right now.

I believe a few quality carp have come out of Sandiway Lakes, but you've more chance of platting fog than getting further details.

Association vice-president Geoff Brooks recorded a first win of the year during our latest disabled and over 60s match on the Bridgewater Canal at Daresbury Labs.

His net of small roach and skimmers, weighing 3-10-6, was taken on the pole at 11metres.

Jimmy Byrne took second spot after landing 3-3-6 from the peg next door.
