Rylands 0 Whaley Bridge 2

RYLANDS were denied the chance of silverware as they fell to defeat in the Cheshire League’s JB Parker Premier Division Cup final on Wednesday night.

Two goals from Sam Leadbetter proved enough for opponents Whaley Bridge to lift the trophy for the third consecutive year.

Blues were behind after just four minutes at Trafford FC when Leadbetter raced onto a ball over the top and gave keeper Conor Yarwood no chance.

Steve Hayes’ side grew into the game, with Lee Vaughan firing just wide on the counter-attack before Przemek Staniszewski hit a shot into the side netting.

Rylands huffed and puffed after the break, but Leadbetter put an end to their chances with four minutes remaining by finishing off a ruthless counter attack.

Attention turns back to league matters now for Blues, who welcome Altrincham reserves to Gorsey Lane tomorrow, kick off 3pm.

Rylands: Yarwood, Ball, Sinker (Curran), Hayes, Williams, France, Vaughan, Howard, Bowers, Lambert, Staniszewski (Parker).
