PHILLIP Brown reports that tench are starting feed on Grey Mist Mere, where last week he caught five of the olive beauties - all around the 6lb-mark.

He fished a block-end feeder about 30 yards out with a bunch of maggots on the hook.

I'm also informed that a few carp are being caught, although disturbingly I've also heard that one angler sacked a fish there.

All carp and tench must be returned to the water immediately and not retained overnight for a catch shot.

Jamie Bretherton visited Rixton Claypits for the first time and came away suitably impressed after a four-hour stint.

He fished a small method-feeder, alternating between double maggot and corn, to end the session with eight bream - weighing around 3lbs - and six tench that he reckons averaged 3lbs (with one approaching 5lbs).

A return visit is on the cards.

A notice has been posted that one of our depots, Lionel’s Tackle at Buckley, is closing.

It means association members can no longer join, or pay their annual subscription, there.

Our latest disabled and over 60s match on Monday was fished on the Trent and Mersey Canal at Farm Road.

Committee member Graham Belton took first prize after putting 2-14-8 of small roach on the scales caught on pinkie and small pole-cups of groundbait at 11 metres.

He edged Jimmy Byrne into second spot by a mere half an ounce.

A reminder to members that the Angling Trust's North West Fisheries Forum is scheduled for Wednesday at Croft Memorial Hall on Mustard Lane, from 7pm.

Refreshments are available.
