NEW Association member Ian Street has had a long lay-off from angling, a quarter of a century or thereabouts, and he believed he may be a little rusty.

Well, he had nothing to fear last week as on his first trip to Fosters Pools at Wigan, he caught four decent-sized chub. Welcome back Ian to our great sport.

I hear that a few tench are being caught from Grey Mist, with one angler reportedly having eight or nine tincas on maggot feeder.

There have also been a fair number of carp anglers lining the banks and hopefully catching the odd fish. Who knows?

Jim Andrews took advantage of the improvement in the weather this week and chose High Legh Fishery for his first outing since October.

On a sunny day with a bit of wind chill but shielded by the surrounding high banks, he settled down in his swim using a small groundbait feeder and maggots.

He was enjoying his surroundings and hardly expecting any miracles fish wise which turned out to be spot on as his tip was stationary throughout.

Not a busted or skinned maggot, zilch. But, Jim still enjoyed his time on the bank.

There are continuing good reports of decent roach catches coming from Appleton Reservoir, where I understand maggot and feeder tactics are producing quality fish.

Worth a visit, but ensure that you park on our car park.

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse, our disabled and over 60s results this week are deserving a four-letter word…. dire!

Fished on the Bridgewater Canal near the Tramps grave at Moore, Roy Rogers needed only 0lbs 0ozs 8drs to win the match. That is 0.5 of an ounce!

Mike Worley and Jimmy Byrnes were joint-second with one fish apiece for 0-0-4. None of the other anglers had a bite.

If you have been out on the water lately, your catch reports are always more than welcome.

If you have any to contribute, please send to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a call on 01928 716238.
