GAVIN Brown’s brace of goals helped Warrington Hockey Club’s men’s second team to a dominant 5-1 victory over Chester’s sixths.

Chris Lyon converted the rebound after Brown had hit the post to put Warrington ahead before a sweet Noal Phillpotts strike gave them breathing space.

Richard Taylor added his name to the scoresheet from a well-worked short corner before Brown took over, finishing off two excellent passing moves to round off the victory.

Sadly, however, they were the only Warrington senior team to record a victory on Saturday as the three others were beaten.

The women’s seconds were beaten 4-2 by Buckley, despite skilful goals from Molly Rudd and Vicky Stout ensuring they were level at 2-2 going into the half-time break.

After a 6-0 defeat to Winnington Park, the women’s firsts now face an uphill struggle to avoid relegation.

They must overhaul a four-point deficit if they are to reach safety, but they only have two games in which to do it.

The men’s firsts were also on the end of a heavy defeat, losing 11-2 to second-placed Liverpool John Moores University.
