THE future appears to be bright at Warrington RUFC as their junior teams took the chance to enjoy centre stage.

With all senior team games postponed at the weekend, three age group sides stole the limelight as they all reached their respective Lancashire Cup semi-finals.

The under 16s were looking to avenge last season’s final-four defeat to Heaton Moor and they did so in fine style, running seven tries past their shell-shocked opponents to set up a semi-final clash with Sefton.

Star winger Roma Zheng stole the show by running in a hat-trick, while Matt Bullock was impressive in the front row.

Meanwhile, the under 15s were 31-12 victors over Aldwinians, with Mark Ravenscroft crossing twice to go with further tries from Archie Kellett and Charlie Hughes. They move on to face Waterloo in the last-four.

Finally, the under 14s set up a tie with Littleborough after a crushing 59-7 victory over Liverpool St Helens.

Jude Lightfoot, Rorio Zheng and Charlie Bancroft all scored twice, with Christian Johnston and Joe Malley also crossing.

“These successes demonstrate just how strong our Mini-and Junior section is,” Andy Kellett, the club’s mini and junior section chairman, said.

“At the moment, seven of our current first team have come up through the junior ranks, while the last first-team game saw two of our current Colts side taking the field.

“It all bodes well for the future.”

The first team are scheduled to return to action on Saturday when they welcome St Benedicts to Walton Lea Road, kick off 2.15pm.
