YOUNGSTERS from Warrington Athletics Club enjoyed a successful day at the Cheshire Schools Championships, with club members scooping 21 medals between them.

Nine of the medals won by Warrington athletes were gold, including Megan Kettle in the intermediate girl's hammer after a championship-best throw of 42.77 metres.

Clubmate Natasha Ryder took the silver medal after throwing 29.54m.

Senior runner Cameron Meakin won two of Warrington's gold medals, taking victory in the 200m and 110m hurdles.

For the girls, Rebecca Hardy took gold in the intermediate 80m hurdles after clocking 12.4secs.

Chloe Mason, intermediate 800m, Amy Nuttall, intermediate 1500m, Ashley Nemits, junior 800m, and Natalie Chamun, junior hammer, all won silvers while Emma Davies and Lucy Baxter took bronze in the intermediate 100m and 1500m respectively.

For the boys, Jack Garner set a new personal best time by winning the junior 80m hurdles, stopping the clock at 13.1secs.

Cameron Duff also clocked a personal best 22.6secs to win the 200m, while Tom Baines and Joe Williams were also successful on the track in the 400m and 100m hurdles respectively.

In the field events, Josh Herrington took gold in the high jump by clearing 1.75m.

Sam Wadsworth scooped a silver medal in the javelin by throwing a new personal best of 30.32m, with other personal best performances by Tristan Hall, intermediate 400m, and Joe Buckey, intermediate 3000m, were also good enough for second place.

Sam Rostron and Luke Gamble took senior silver medals in the 1500m and 3000m respectively, while Jordan Jones scooped bronze in the intermediate 3000m.

There was also Warrington Athletics Club representation at the Northern Championships in Manchester, with James Gladman winning gold in the senior 200m with a time of 21.02secs.

Katie Lowery took silver in the under 20s women's 1500m, with Lauren Ferris finishing fifth in the same race and Jack Stubbings also coming fifth in the men's equivalent.

Over sprint distances, Fisayo Williamson-Taylor finished third in his under 20s 200m heat but did not contest the final before his 100m heat time of 11.03secs was also not enough to allow him to advance.

On Friday, three of the club's runners took part in the Birchwood Brook 5km race, with Steve Watmough coming home first in the over 50s category and fifth overall in 17mins 25secs.

Tom Mills was close behind in eighth, while Dave Tomkins' 99th-place finish meant he was the first over 70s athlete to cross the line.
