A KIND-HEARTED Lymm woman has helped to raise enough money to fund more than 2,000 breakfasts for schoolchildren.

Catherine Birkett, aged 44, of Barsbank Lane, joined her co-workers for the Whitley 10k to raise vital funds for the charity Magic Breakfast, which provides breakfast to youngsters who would otherwise go without.

Catherine, who signed up for the challenge to support AMM Learning’s sponsorship of two breakfast clubs in the town, said: “I decided to sign up for the run after learning about the important work that Magic Breakfast does.

“I know that there are hundreds of schoolchildren who benefit from the charity’s work and I hope that the money I’ve raised will go some way to fund future projects.”

The charity is dedicated to providing free, nutritious breakfast food to schools where more than 35 per cent of pupils are eligible for free school meals.

The organisation, which was founded by Carmell McConnell, aims to solve the problem of hunger in the morning as a ‘barrier to education’.

Anne Morris is the founder of AMM Learning, which is a provider of in-school tuition in the core subjects delivered by gap year tutors.

She added: “We’re extremely proud that Catherine agreed to run with us in aid of Magic Breakfast.

“It’s a charity very close to our hearts, as it plays a vital role in underprivileged children’s educational and social development.

“It costs just 22 pence to give a child breakfast, so every penny really does make a difference. We know that Catherine trained really hard for this and her efforts mean a great deal.”
