WORK on improvements to Lymm Youth and Community Centre will start this month.

The programme has been two years in the making and has been boosted by a £75,000 grant from Wren, an organisation which provides funds for community environmental improvements generated by the landfill tax.

Chairman of Lymm Youth and Community Association Steve Griffiths said: “There will inevitably be some disruption to the very full programme of activities that take place every day of the week at the centre; but we will try to manage the works to minimise this and apologise to those users who are inconvenienced.

“However we are sure all users will agree that the hopefully minor disruption is more than compensated by the improvements for the future and extra flexibility and new uses that this will facilitate.”

The centre has been extensively renovated over the past five years and the Wren money will enable substantial developments to a number of facilities.

Most noticeable will be changes to the upper and lower entrances to give full disabled access and all toilets will be upgraded to fully accessible and suitable for disabled with baby changing facilities.

Works will also create storage and an extension to the kitchen, with new flooring throughout as well as redecorating and are set to finish by Easter.
