PUPILS at Sir Thomas Boteler High School have been helping to make an international impact after raising cash for a charity which funds research into gynaecological cancers.

Youngsters at the school, in Grammar School Road, took part in the Adam and Eve run during the summer and raised £236 for The Eve Appeal, a charity which has since announced it can now screen for the BRCA gene mutation.

A spokesman from the school added: “The great effort of the pupils at Sir Thomas Boteler High School has gone to contribute to this week’s announcement of the screening for the BRCA gene mutation which could have an impact on how genetic testing in health care is delivered in the future.

“The pupils have made a very significant contribution and this was an event that is close to the heart of the RE department after a close relative and owner of British School of Coaching Judith Barton had been treated for ovarian cancer for the second time.”

The Warrington Guardian has previously reported the school raised £1,100 following the race which was jointly organised between the school and the British School of Coaching after Judith’s diagnosis in 2013.

Judith said: “Thank you so much to everyone who took part and kindly donated towards our challenge.”

Jean Hensey-Reynard, head of religious studies at Sir Thomas Boteler, added: “As a Christian school we encourage all our pupils to live up to our motto – our school cares. This year we encouraged pupils to do this fun run to raise awareness and funds.”
