THE fate of a £20,000 cash post has been decided after the public was asked to have their say on where the money should be spent.

Eleven projects will receive funding from the A Better Burtonwood Participatory Budgeting project in Warrington.

The winners were announced by Cheshire’s police and crime commissioner John Dwyer.

He said: “I am so pleased that this community has brought forward some really good ideas which will benefit not only them but the wider community in Warrington.

"I am therefore, delighted to give them support in this tangible way.

"I am looking forward to visiting the recipients of the funds, seeing the projects in action and hearing about the benefits they have realised.”

Burtonwood Youth Club was awarded £2,000 to help the project to continue to offer youngsters a safe and free place to visit in the village.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the Burtonwood Scouts, the group were presented with £1,700 to help leaders to continue to provide a variety of experiences and challenges for children from six to 14 years.

A grant of £1,893 will be used to buy new furniture for the Burtonwood Community Centre.

It is understood this money will help to buy 50 new chairs and ten new tables.

A sum of £2,000 will help to solve the problem of a lack of storage space at the community centre on Green Lane by helping to fund two storage units.

Plans to bring back the Burtonwood Road Race are one step closer to becoming a reality after £1,700 was donated to the cause.

A climbing frame could now be built at St Paul of the Cross Primary School after £2,000 was awarded to the fitness fun classes.

Crickettes Morris Dancers have also been granted a £2,000 cash boost to be able to subsidise costs for transportation which would help dancers and parents to attend dance competitions.

A viewing shelter could be built at the bowling green after £2,000 was put to one side for the project.

Burtonwood Craft Group is set to benefit from £1,220 which will help to pay for two month's rent and hold a party for the Queen's 90th birthday.

An initiative called Neighbour Favours was granted £2,000 to keep the project going while the Burtonwood Homing Society was handed £900 to buy a computer and printer.
