CONMEN are trying to dupe residents into handing over personal details by offering to help them save money on council tax bills.

The scam has been ongoing since December. A company calls up and suggests a home may be banded incorrectly.

It then offers a service to change the band or lower the bill if you live alone.

Trading Standards chiefs are warning homeowners to ignore any calls of this kind.

House banding can be checked by calling the valuation office on 03000 501501.

Anyone with information can call Cheshire Police on 101 or Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06.
