By HANNAH AL-TARABOULSY A BAND have scored a double whammy with a record deal and a new album that is climbing the charts.

Haymaker, formed in 2010, are a synth-pop band created by musicians David Thornber, aged 39, from Westbrook, and Suzy Hopwood, 33, from Birmingham.

Their album Storm was released on July 8 and is at number 24 in the Amazon Dance and Electronic MP3 Albums Chart.

The album was the result of eight months spent writing, recording and producing songs that celebrate pop sounds of the 1980s while embracing modern day dance and trance.

David and Suzy have years of musical experience between them.

In December 2000, David’s former band Euphoria recorded charity single Canon, a dance remix of a classical tune, for St Rocco’s Hospice, in memory of his grandfather Albert Thornber.

Vocalist Suzy has performed for a number of famous figures, including former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Mayor of London Boris Johnson and London Olympics 2012 chief Lord Sebastian Coe.

David’s introduction to music came when he was eight years old and he began playing the guitar.

He then learned how to use a synthesizer and had computer music published on games from that era when he was 11.

David wrote his first song one year later and in 1994 he formed his first band Orpheus, which came close to being signed by Warner Brothers.

He said: “I’ve been fascinated by music from an early age and for me it is the soundtrack to my life. While I’m breathing I will keep making it for people to hear.”

Haymaker were signed by German label Dooload.de in May. The band will be touring Europe later this year.
