FAILURE to Launch seems a fairly apt title for a film that never really reaches where it wants to go.
This latest vehicle for Sarah Jessica Parker post-Sex In The City sees her playing a professional interventionist who is hired by weary parents who are desperate to get rid of their adult children who still live at home.
Her latest target is Tripp (Matthew McConaughey) who is still enjoying being pampered by his parents and has yet to fly the nest.
She sets about trying to get him to move out by using her tried and tested steps but during that time she starts to actually fall for him.
The lack of chemistry between the pair never makes it look like they are falling for each other.
The real fun in the movie comes from Kit (Zooey Deschanel), Paula's alcoholic flatmate who has a battle of wits with a mocking bird.
The dry performance by Deschanel is the film's major saving grace.
Watchable, yes, but it's a failure when it comes to trying to be a romantic comedy.
