BUDDING scientists from three primary schools are carrying out their own investigations as part of a national initiative.

Woolston Community Primary School, Cinnamon Brow Primary School and St Bridget's Primary School are taking part in the Primary Science Enhancement Programme (PSEP), which enables pupils aged seven to 13 to investigate an area of science in an industrial context.

Children will learn about and investigate industrial problems then visit a linked industrial partner.

Staff taking part will be trained to deliver the programme in their school.

Industrial partners involved in the project include Warrington Hospital, Unilever, Warrington Wolves, Risley Moss, Fiddlers Ferry and Celanese.

Councillor Sheila Woodyatt, the borough council's executive board member for children's services, said: "This is a excellent project, which will certainly help encourage our young pupils to get involved in science."
