TEACHER Richard Robinson is in a class of his own according to one of his pupils who nominated him for an Asda Top Teacher' award.

The supermarket giant is holding a competition to find the country's top teachers.

And in Warrington the spotlight has fallen on Mr Robinson, who works at Callands Primary School.

The 30-year-old won a bottle of champagne and a trophy after being nominated by nine-year-old Jack Wood.

Jack wrote a letter to the Asda Westbrook store explaining why his teacher should win.

He said: "He makes learning fun and easier.

"He bakes, plays football, dances and even tries to sing."

Mr Robinson, who has been at Callands Primary for seven years, said: "It was very flattering, I didn't even know about the competition so it was totally unexpected.

"I enjoy my teaching but when someone goes independently to put your name forward, secretly without any mention of it to say thank you, it is very rewarding."

The year four teacher now has the opportunity to go forward to the regional heats and could even go on to be named the best teacher in the country.

The overall winner will land £500 of holiday vouchers and £500 for his school.
