BOWLS aces St Oswalds A have a premier cup double in their sights for the second time in three years.

The Padgate side defeated King and Queen A in a thrilling Challenge Cup Final at the weekend and face Tetley Walker A in the Silcock Cup Final on Saturday.

The Warrington and North Cheshire Bowls Association Friday League leaders, who have added J Brown, B Lawton and G Stone to their ranks for Saturday's 2pm showdown at Woolston Royal British Legion, also knocked out King and Queen in the semi finals of the Silcock Cup.

But St Oswalds needed the handicap start of six chalks placed on the holders to wrestle the silverware away from King and Queen in a 219-213 success.

St Oswalds only won four of the 12 games in the Challenge Cup Final but those wins were of wide margins and, together with the handicap, proved to be enough to break the hearts of the Warrington Sports Personality Pub Team of 2005 award winners.

Man of the match Tommy Johnstone gave them a great start with a 21-9 defeat of Larry Wells, while Carl Armitage chipped in with a 21-11 success over A Manuel.

Further down the line Billy Burlinson registered another blow to King and Queen's hopes with a 21-14 victory and R Bate's 21-11 win against John Clarke kept them ahead.

Damian Morrison's 21-10 success against S Brown was King and Queen's best win of the day but too many tight wins cost the Padgate team dearly.
