A BREAK-IN at Monks Sports and Social Club has jeopardised the aid trip of a group of girls hoping to do charity work in Gambia.

The club was broken into a fortnight ago when thugs stole speakers and other equipment needed for a fundraiser for the girls’ trip.

They form the Girls Involved in Voluntary Educational Experiences group and were planning to visit Africa this month to work in Gambian villages struck by poverty.

However, the plans are now shattered because of the theft, which means a race night, organised to raise cash, has been cancelled.

A final fundraiser will take place at Alfords Sports Club, on November 12. The theme will be a disco reunion night aimed at old school ravers who went to any Woolston Leisure discos in the 70s and 80s.

Performing will be popular DJ from the era, Pete Rigby, who will once again take to the turntables to relive disco classics.

Tickets are £3, with a raffle and bar available.

They can be ordered from the sports club on Manchester Road, or by calling Jane on 07751 071 855.

Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery to contact Crimestoppers on 0845 555 111.
