A LIFELONG Wolves fan celebrated his 91st birthday with Wolfie and the Carnegie Challenge Cup at a surprise party.
Organised by his friends at Radley Common Community Centre, off Grasmere Avenue in Orford, John Clarke said the party was ‘very nice indeed’.
“I have always been a Warrington supporter but I can’t get down to watch them now,” he said.
Maureen Highm, who runs the Stop and Play kids group at the centre, organised the day with councillor Brian Maher (LAB – Poplars and Hulme).
Maureen said: “John is a star.”
Children from the group sang Happy Birthday to Mr Clarke, who is a regular bingo player at the centre.
Mr Clarke’s daughter, Ann Barnes, aged 63, said: “I’m overwhelmed with what they have done for him, I can’t praise them enough.”
Mr Clarke said: “Maureen is my best friend, I’d be lost without her.”
The Orford granddad is one of the oldest people to attend the centre.
Clr Maher said: “We arranged this for John when we heard it was his birthday because we wanted to do something nice for him.
“We knew he was a big Wolves fan so we were determined to get Wolfie along and to have the Challenge Cup here as well was a nice extra bonus.”
