A WOMAN from Grappenhall has raised £3,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of her husband.

Pauline Lawrence and her friends at Abersach Sands, a caravan park in North Wales where the couple spent many holidays, held a barbecue fundraising event.

Kevin, who was 60, died from liver and bowel cancer this year.

Barclays Bank, where Pauline’s friend Karen worked, matched the £1,500 raised.

The money will be used to support people living with cancer in Warrington.

Pauline described Macmillan nurse Jean as a godsend.

She said: “Jean made what was such a hard and emotional time easier. Anything we needed, she provided and she is still there for me and the family to talk to now, which is just fantastic.”

This Christmas, Macmillan is asking for people to raise £100 in preparation for their centenary year.

Pauline added: “Macmillan nurses are a special breed and I never thought I would be in that position. Every penny counts for this charity, so I hope other people in the area do their bit for Macmillan this Christmas.”
