PUPILS from schools across Halton were among 360 children who had a hands on science class with student teachers.

The special workshops by the student teachers from Liverpool Hope University were organised after they had intensive training from Shell Education Service on how to teach science to primary school children.

Youngsters from The Grange Primary School in Runcorn and Cronton CE Primary School in Widnes, took part in investigations such as testing vitamin C in fruit and vegetables and learning were the energy comes from to power a clockwork radio.

Meg Post, a workshop leader for the Shell Education Service, said: "We know that too many of the scientists of tomorrow are lost at an early age.

"Indeed, it is at primary schools when future Nobel Prize winners need to be excited and enthralled as to the limitless possibilities of science.

"Today's workshop is aimed at engaging children's curiosity through the excitement and fun of science, helping them to understand the world around them."
