MORE than £12,000 has been raised for the work of the Royal British Legion by Newsquest, owners of the Warrington Guardian Series, from the sales of our book that commemorated the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

The publication was the idea of Chris Hughes, regional managing director of Newsquest, and contained wartime memories of many of our readers and a comprehensive history of the conflict written by special features editor Alan Domville.

Ultimately, the concept was rolled out across many Newsquest publications across the country.

Andrew Meek, on behalf of the British Legion, said: "The amount raised is a magnificient achievement and speaks volumes not only for the marvellous work done in producing the commemorative book but also to the generosity of your readers."

The proceeds were presented to Eddy Dixon, national trustee, by Nicola Priest, editor of the Warrington Guardian, at the Legion's area office within St James's Court.

The sum raised will assist members of the ex-service community and their dependents who find themselves in need.
