MHARI KELLY

A STUDENT claims she has wasted a year at Mid-Cheshire College because her coursework has been lost.

Kelly-Marie Taylor, aged 17, was studying for her NVQ in administration when her work disappeared.

Although she had been a student at the college in Hartford for a year, she did not obtain any qualifications because her work had gone astray.

But Kelly, of Marshalls Lane in Greenbank, kept quiet about the error until she read in last week's Guardian about another student at the same college whose coursework had mysteriously disappeared.

Joanne Jennings, aged 18, was excluded from the college because her dad had a row with a teacher over her lost work.

But this week the college apologised to Joanne and she was re-instated on her course. Joanne says she is "delighted" at the result.

But Kelly is still fuming. "I couldn't believe it when I read Joanne's story; it was the same as mine," Kelly said.

"I was really upset. I've been at the college for a whole year and it's been a waste of time.

"Although I had completed my NVQ level 2 folder my teacher said I couldn't hand it in without having first completed level 1."

A spokesman for Mid-Cheshire College said: "Inevitably from time to time work may go missing.

"This is a very rare occurence and every effort is made to locate it. It can also be difficult to ascertain the reason for the missing work."

The college declined to comment on Kelly's case until she lodges an official complaint. The spokesman also claimed that Joanne Jennings was never actually expelled, only excluded until the matter was settled.
