NORTHWICH Rowing Club, suffering the effects of the foot and mouth crisis on land, took to the waters of the Thames on Saturday.
Two crews entered the Men's Eight Head of the River race amongst an entry of 393 crews from all over Britain and Europe, including some Olympic gold medallists.
The Senior 2 composite crew of cox Sarah Murdin, Geoff Howcroft-Sims, Lee Bradley and Dave Street had an interesting race.
They were involved in a serious clash of blades at Hammersmith Bridge due to inexperienced crews not giving way to a faster boat. Unruffled, the quartet completed the four-mile course in 19 minutes 33 seconds.
There was a first ever London Head for the novice eight crew and they clocked an impressive 22 minutes 11 seconds. Rowers were cox Steve Pool, Nik Emmett, Matt Frier, Graham Williams, John Stone, Simon Willcocks, Jason Dunnett, Simon Bannasterand and Sam Benyon.
Back home in Northwich, rowing has been suspended due to the foot and mouth crisis, with crew unable to practice on the water.
