MIDDLEWICH Town manager Dave Twite has no fear going into tonight's Mid Cheshire Senior Cup quarter-final with Barnton, despite losing 4-0 to the same opponents on Saturday.

He hopes the defeat in the semi-final of the Mid Cheshire District Cup at Townfield Lane will have given his players the incentive to put things right.

"Hopefully that result could work in our favour and we can get it back for tonight," said Twite.

"Four of our players froze and I don't know why because we've been playing well. Apart from Andy Taylor and Rob Corcoran the rest under-achieved and never played.

"Barnton were no great shakes and we gifted them all four goals, they didn't have to work hard to score.

"I spoke to them all individually on Monday and what came across from them was the same view as mine. I know, and they know, how they can play."

Twite will be pitting Darren Ingham and lan Woan in the starting line-up for the second part to the Barnton double header, but Paul Quine and Williams could miss out through injury.

The cup tie at the Drill Field tonight (Wednesday) kicks off at 7.30pm. Witton Albion await the winners.

Last Wednesday, Town won 1-0 at Trafford Reserves to keep their Mid Cheshire League title challenge going, Stewart Williams with the only goal 10 minutes from the end.

Middlewich are trying to get this Saturday's home league game with Rylands brought forward to 1pm to avoid clashing with England's World Cup qualifier against Finland.

DUE to Saturday's World Cup match, Winsford United will play Trafford on a Friday night in the league for the second time this season (7.30pm).

The Blues met their Manchester rivals the night before England's qualifier defeat to Germany in October, winning 3-2.

Since then, Trafford have risen to sixth in UniBond Division One, while Winsford have slumped dramatically thanks to their "Jekyll and Hyde" form, as manager Steve Shaughnessy calls it.

Another chapter in the horror story unfolded on Saturday when United, after winning two away matches on the spin, lost at home 3-2 to Eastwood Town, who went above them in the table.

Shaughnessy has further strengthened his squad in the last week with the capture of former Manchester City youth Kevin Whitehead.
