REFURBISHMENT work on Flag Lane bridge has been slammed by a planning councillor as a disgrace.
Chair of Crewe and Nantwich planning committee, Cllr Chris Thorley, has lambasted developers for the state of the recently refurbished and reopened Flag Lane bridge.
"They should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves, I could have laid the bricks better with a white wash brush myself," he fumed.
"It is not enough that our traffic system in that area was substantially affected by their work for a great deal of time, but what they have presented us with is nothing less than a disgrace," he added.
The work was undertaken by Morrisons own contractors and Cllr Thorley explained that officers at the council have complained to them and they offered to wash the bricks but he maintained this was not good enough.
"This is a major development area for us in Crewe and to see such work is very upsetting," he added.
In further developments a series of traffic calming measures are being proposed on the roads surrounding Flag Lane and Morrisons supermarket in Crewe.
The plans would see a variety of measures installed, paid for by the supermarket as part of its planning agreement.
Residents in the area are now being asked for their comments and views on the proposals which include:
* Six road humps in Richard Moon Street.
* A footway/cycleway in Goddard Street.
* A new zebra crossing in Flag Lane.
* More covered cycle parking in Victoria Street.
* Dropped kerbs and tactile paving in Goddard, Richard Moon and Victoria Streets as well as Flag Lane.
* A change in traffic priority at the junction of Victoria Street and Flag Lane.
* A cycle lane being introduced in Victoria Street.
These plans are to be on display between 2pm and 8pm on Wednesday, March 28, at West Street Baptist Church Hall for people to comment on.
