YOUNG Owen Sterry made an explosive debut for Crewe Boxing Club on their return to action.

The local lad made it 1 and 0 with a third round stoppage as Joey Singleton's stable took part in three bouts at Biddies Workingmen's Club in Longton, last week.

Facing Chris Poole from Bury ABC, Sterry made a big impact in the first round with some heavy right hands to the body.

More of the same in the second before Sterry followed his trainer's instructions to the letter.

A three-punch combo of double left jabs followed by a straight right worked perfectly with Poole receiving a standing eight count before being stopped, one minute into the third round.

Light-welterweight Richard Daly took rising star Marvin Campbell to the brink in Crewe's next encounter.

Taking time out of the gym due to exams, Daly was still up for the challenge, taking the fight after just 10 days of training against the Stoke prospect named after the legendary Marvin Hagler.

Altering his style to accommodate his build, Daly was facing his first test and the bout began at awesome pace.

Neither gave an inch with both fighters locked in a toe-to-toe battle throughout three superb rounds.

Campbell shaded a majority verdict from the judges as the MC asked everyone to applaud two great competitors.

Top of the bill was Crewe's light-welterweight Ian Clyde, meeting Lee Graves from the all-powerful Chorley ABC.

A real cracker from the first bell, the bout lived up to expectations with all-out close quarter exchanges.

Clyde appeared to be getting the better of things from long-range but the judges didn't see it, awarding Graves a majority decision.

"It was an outstanding debut for Owen," said Singleton.

"Richard did himself and Crewe ABC proud and we were pleased with all our three's performances."

Crewe ABC were back in action in Shrewsbury on Tuesday and travel to Uttoxeter, tonight.
