Winnington Park RUFC 15

Lymm RFC 5

LYMM suffered their fifth Rugby Football Union North Two West defeat on the spin on Saturday despite enjoying the majority of the possession against Winnington Park.

They were forced to make a number of changes to their starting line-up due to injuries and unavailability but they still managed to dominate the first half.

The long serving Andy Holloway came in on the left wing, Mark Berry played at centre in place of Richard Hopkinson and former first team second rower Phil Griffiths stood in for Rob Calderwbank after recovering from a long injury lay-off.

Peter Millachip, who has also been plagued by injury problems, played at flanker following a two-year absence from the game.

Lymm had Winnington on the back foot for long spells in the first half but they struggled to turn their chances into points and were made to pay the price.

Winnington turned a five-point deficit into a 10-point lead in an 18-minute spell at the start of the second half and a dramatic response was needed.

Lymm gave their all in a bid to get back into the game but their efforts proved to be in vain.

They were held up over the line on one occasion and a poor final pass which denied Lee Price a certain try compounded their misery.

Tight head prop Keith Broadbent had better luck in the first half, scoring Lymm's only try of the game following a clean take at a line-out and a controlled rolling maul.

Lymm will need to regain some confidence and play to their strengths if they are to return to winning ways at the expense of Wigton on Saturday. The home game will kick-off at 2.30pm.

Lymm Colts are also at home at the weekend.

The under 19s side play Altrincham Kersal on Sunday, kick-off 2pm.

MAN of the match Ben Hinton scored two tries for Lymm in their North West Inter-League Division Three defeat to Bury's second string.

Rob Peat also crossed the whitewash for Lymm while Liam O'Callaghan converted two touch downs and kicked a penalty.

Their efforts were not rewarded, however.

This was due largely to the fact that Lymm's packmen failed to impose themselves on the game until the final 20 minutes.
