THEY say a dog is for life and not just for Christmas, but Cheshire Dogs Home is on the lookout for short term fosterers over the festive period.

The centre in Grappenhall is preparing for its busiest time of year, which can see double the amount of unwanted animals arriving on its doorstep.

And to cope with the extra demand, it is hoped families will come forward to take in animals over Christmas until the busy period is over.

John Newton, assistant manager at the centre, said: "We need people who will be able to give these animals plenty of love and attention while they are staying with them."

Among the dogs hoping to have a Christmas break are Callum, Rascal, William and Bruno, who donned Santa hats and reindeer antlers to launch the appeal.
