SLEIGH bells will be ringing for Jacob Hawthorn when he jets off to Lapland next week to meet Father Christmas.

Jacob, aged three-and-a-half, who suffers from the muscle wasting disease congenital muscular dystrophy, will enjoy the trip of a lifetime when he arrives in the winter wonderland next Wednesday.

He is one of 100 children from the north west to be nominated for the one-day trip by Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool. He and his mum, Christie, will stay overnight in a hotel before flying to Lapland to meet Father Christmas and his reindeer.

Christie, of Hilltop Road, Woolston, said: "Jacob is a little unwell at the moment so we're looking after him and making sure he's well enough to visit Lapland, because obviously it's going to be very cold.

"Because he has been poorly and has spent a lot of time in hospital we haven't really had the chance to thank everybody who helped with fundraising for his electric wheelchair in the past 18 months.

"We really do appreciate it so much."
