Sarah Vandewalle hits new heights

A WARRINGTON teenager gained her best finish yet in the British Modern Biathlon Championships at the weekend.

Sarah Vandewalle finished fourth overall in the 15 to 16 years age group after a 2,000 metres cross country run on Saturday followed by a 200m freestyle swim on Sunday. But she won a team gold medal along with two other girls who made up the Ribble Valley side.

The 16-year-old from Westbrook, who trains with Warrington Athletics Club and Warriors of Warrington Swimming Club, finished 13th in the run in treacherous conditions.

She was outstanding in the swim as she finished second with a personal best time of 2mins 16.57secs.

Johnson on tour

FORMER Warrington Wolves coach Brian Johnson has brought his Australian Institute of Sport team over to Britain on tour.

They will be playing England under 17s tomorrow, Friday, at South Leeds Stadium and on Wednesday at Lionheart Stadium, Featherstone.

Rearranged date

THE Warrington Woolston Rovers versus Eccles and Salford Juniors clash in the Powergen Challenge Cup first round at Wilderspool Stadium was postponed on Saturday due to the state of the pitch.

The game has been rearranged for Saturday, kick-off 2pm, at Wilderspool

Reunion dinner

BULLS Head Hotel on Church Street will play host to an amateur Rugby League reunion dinner on December 27 starting at noon.

All past and present Bank Quay Bulls, Woolston Rovers, Crosfields, Latchford Albion, Rylands and Thames Board players are invited to attend.

Referee's event

CROSFIELDS Amateur Rugby League Club will be playing host to a referee's night on Saturday starting at 8pm.

The entrance fee is £5 and the price includes refreshments.
