BIDDULPH Vics earned an excellent point at highflying Oldbury United on Saturday in an action-packed match.

Both sides created chances in a game which ended 0-0, Vics' teenage keeper Goodwin denying Oldbury at the death with a superb save.

The Vics started confidently in their away clash at their second-placed opponents, and pushed forward from the kick off.

Oldbury were awarded a free kick on five minutes, but it hit the defensive wall and was cleared.

They had a chance to take the lead on 24 minutes, but Palmer shot past the post.

Bussell for the Vics was fortunate to stay on the field a minute later following an altercation with one of the Oldbury players.

The Vics twice came close to scoring two minutes before half-time.

The ball flew through a packed Oldbury penalty area, and Pope volleyed a shot wide after connecting with a cross from Bourne.

Burge fired a ball past the Oldbury far post early in the second half, but no Vics player was there to knock it in.

The Oldbury keeper pulled off a fine save on the hour to deny Bourne, and the home side then went close again

Palmer hit a superb volley off a corner, but Davenport was on the line for the Vics, and cleared the ball to safety at the second attempt.

Burge headed into the Oldbury keeper's hands with 11 minutes left, and Goodwin palmed a Palmer shot over the bar in the last minute.

The Vics are at home to Cradley Town tomorrow.
