FLASHDANCE – The Musical will play Liverpool Empire Theatre from 26-31 January this week.

Set in Pittsburgh, USA, Flashdance – The Musical tells the story of 18-year-old Alex, a welder by day and ‘flashdancer’ by night, whose dream is to obtain a place at the prestigious Shipley Dance Academy.

It’s a story about holding on to your dreams and love against all the odds and features an iconic score including Maniac, Manhunt, Gloria, I Love Rock and Roll and the Academy Award-winning title track Flashdance – What a Feeling.

Taking the lead of Alex Owens will be Victoria Hamilton-Barritt. Victoria’s West End theatre credits include Mamma Mia!, Fame and Desperately Seeking Susan.

Bruno Langley, best known for playing Todd Grimshaw in Coronation Street, will play Jimmy and Bernie Nolan will play Hannah Owens.

Bernie is best known as the lead singer of The Nolan Sisters. Her theatre credits include Mrs Johnstone in Blood Brothers, both in the West End and on tour. Television credits include playing Diane Murray in Brookside for two years and Sergeant Shelagh Murphy in The Bill.

Noel Sullivan will play Nick. Noel is best known as one fifth of the record-breaking pop band Hear’say. His musical theatre credits include Danny in Grease and Nick in Fame.

Producer David Ian said: "To have put together a star cast of this calibre for the world premiere of this exciting, brand new musical, is beyond my wildest dreams.

"This show is going to be dynamite."

Based on the Paramount Pictures film (screenplay by Tom Hedley and Joe Eszterhas, story by Tom Hedley) Flashdance – The Musical is written by Tom Hedley and Robert Cary, with music by Robbie Roth and lyrics by Robert Cary & Robbie Roth.

It will be directed by Kenny Leon and choreographed by Arlene Phillips.
