A MAN twice acquitted of murder - including Stockport drugs baron Chris Little - has been charged with assaulting two police officers.

Arran Coghlan, 36, of Brook Lane, Alderley Edge, has been charged with two counts of section 47 assault and is due before Manchester City Magistrates' Court on November 3.

Shortly before 11pm on Monday, August 18, police received a call for assistance from two officers who were being assaulted at Mottram Towers, Shaw Heath, Stockport.

A patrol attended and found one of the officers had suffered a broken nose and bruising and the other needed stitches to his lip as well as facial bruising.

A 26-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident has been released without charge.

In the 90s Coghlan was aqquitted of shooting dead notorious drugs baron Chris Little, who was shot in the head in Marple, 1994.

And in 2003 a murder case brought against Coghlan and a number of other men in relation to the death of a petty drug dealer from Stockport, David Barnshaw, who'd been burnt to death in the boot of a car in 1999, collapsed after the lead detective in the case, DCI Kenny Caldwell, was found to have withheld evidence.
