B&M has now officially opened inside the Golden Square.

The retailer can be found inside the former Wilko unit as of Saturday, September 28.

A Facebook post from the shopping centre reads: “A warm Golden Square welcome to B&M Stores.

“They are now open.

“Our newest retailers have been so generous. The team at B&M donated potted plants to our Sky Garden and had the pleasure of visiting this morning.”

The B&M colleagues were asked to nominate a local charity they think deserves some VIP treatment for the work they do for the local community. They chose the team from The Sky Garden Project to take centre stage and officially unveil the new B&M store.

The Sky Garden Project launched in 2023 in partnership with the Golden Square shopping centre as part of their ‘Greener Shopping’ campaign.

The Sky Garden is used as an ‘outdoor classroom’ as well as an event space – showing children how to plant and care for small green spaces and hosting events where customers can pick their own produce for free.

The Sky Garden is maintained by a team of volunteers who help tend to the garden on a weekly basis and share their knowledge. Customers and staff are actively encouraged to visit the Sky Garden as they believe nature has a positive impact of mental health and wellbeing.

In addition to opening the store, the team will also receive £250 worth of B&M vouchers, which will go towards helping the charity to continue doing the great work they do.

In addition to £250 worth of B&M vouchers, B&M donated a range of plants to the Sky Garden. This included fruit trees that the Sky Garden can continue to grow, perennials which will bring colour and interest to the garden year after year and bedding plants such as pansies, violas and cyclamen which will bloom in winter to bring a splash of instant colour.

B&M also donated a brand-new sign to the Sky Garden Project as their existing sign had been weather damaged.

The store manager, said: “It was really exciting to welcome customers through the doors; the feedback so far has been fantastic.”

“A big thank you to the team at The Sky Garden Project who helped us open the store; we hope that our donation can help them to continue to do the great work they do.”

After announcing its plans to open inside the mall, B&M revealed it would be closing its store at Cockhedge Shopping Centre.

Its new unit is said to be ‘much bigger and better’, following feedback from regulars that they wanted a bigger shop with more products, and the retailer said the move would create 40 jobs for residents.

The Cockhedge store will officially shut today, Monday.
