A DEDICATED woman who served the Stockton Heath community for more than 40 years has been celebrated.
Earlier this month, a special meeting of Stockton Heath Parish Council took place in honour of Celia Jordan MBE, former Mayor of Warrington.
Here, a Freedom of Parish Stockton Heath was awarded to Celia who was a parish councillor for more than 40 years before stepping down in May.
The meeting was originally arranged for June of this year, but Celia sadly died on June 4 aged 90 – however members of the parish council believed her long service to the community could not go unmarked.
Members of Celia’s family were present to hear tributes made and those at the meeting heard about the ‘pivotal role’ she played in the community, including her tenacity with many projects such as the Purple Flag Award and the redevelopment of Victoria Square
Cllr Peter Walker said: “Celia used her position as a councillor to achieve things and solve problems, both for individuals and the wider community.
“I valued her advice and guidance. It was a privilege to have known and worked with her.
“It is an honour to be asked to propose that Celia is granted the Freedom of the Parish of Stockton Heath.
“Nobody has deserved it more than Cllr Celia Jordan.”
The presentation of a scroll and a gift were then made to Celia’s family with her son Tim Jordan, who was recently elected as a Stockton Heath Parish councillor, receiving them and adding his own tribute to his mother’s service. A celebration tea then took place.
