RESIDENTS are being warned of a scam that has been reported doing the rounds in Warrington.
Cheshire Police has issued a warning after being alerted of a con involving people being called up by scammers purporting to be members of the fraud department.
Con artists are flagging up false fraudulent activity involving residents’ bank or building society accounts, asking them to withdraw or move money.
Officers are urging people not to fall for this, as banks will never ask you to withdraw money or provide personal details over the phone.
The force’s Warrington Police team said: “We are currently being made aware of a number of scams involving people claiming to be from the police fraud department and saying you have had fraudulent activity on your bank or building society account.
“These scams will normally ask if you could withdraw money, and they will collect it or ask you to put it into other accounts.
“Please be aware, the police or banks will never ask you to withdraw money, and never give personal details over the phone.
“If you have any elderly or vulnerable family members, please make them aware of this type of scam.”
