POLICE have sadly confirmed the death of a person on the railway at Padgate station.
Emergency services rushed to the railway line off Station Road South shortly before 3pm this afternoon, Tuesday.
Officers from British Transport Police and Cheshire Police were in attendance, with more than half a dozen police vehicles visible.
Paramedics from North West Ambulance Service and crews from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were also present at the scene.
Sadly however, officers have confirmed that a person has been pronounced dead at the scene, and that the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Padgate railway station at 2.51pm today, Tuesday, September 10, to reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”
Trains are facing cancellations and delays between Warrington Central and Manchester Oxford Road, with TransPennine Express, Northern and East Midlands Railway services impacted.
Northern said: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Warrington Central and Manchester Oxford Road, the line is blocked.
“Train services running through these stations will be cancelled, delayed or diverted via Newton-Le-Willows.
“All stations between Warrington Central and Manchester Oxford Road will not be served.
“Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Oxford Road services via Warrington Central will only operate between Liverpool and Warrington Central.”
National Rail added: “Emergency services are dealing with an incident between Warrington Central and Manchester Oxford Road.
“To allow them to safely carry out their work, all lines are currently closed.
“As a result, trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.
“You are able to use your tickets to travel on other operators’ services in both directions.”
