TRAINS are facing cancellations and delays following an emergency incident in Warrington this afternoon, Tuesday.

Emergency services are in attendance at Padgate railway station. A number of roads are closed in the area as well.

A large number of police vehicles are on the scene as well as ambulance crews and fire crews.

Sadly, police have confirmed that a person has died at the scene.

TransPennine Express, Northern and East Midlands Railway services are impacted.

Northern said: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Warrington Central and Manchester Oxford Road, the line is blocked.

“Train services running through these stations will be cancelled, delayed or diverted via Newton-Le-Willows.

“All stations between Warrington Central and Manchester Oxford Road will not be served.

“Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Oxford Road services via Warrington Central will only operate between Liverpool and Warrington Central.

National Rail said: “Emergency services are dealing with an incident between Warrington Central and Manchester Oxford Road.

“To allow them to safely carry out their work, all lines are currently closed.

“As a result, trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised. This is expected until 5pm.

“You are able to use your tickets to travel on other operator's services in both directions.”
