STAFF at five licensed premises in west Warrington are to undergo fresh training after being caught selling alcohol to underage visitors.

Cheshire Police carried out a test buy operation at pubs and bars in the west of the town on Friday night.

Of all of the premises visited, five failed the operation by selling alcohol to under 18s.

Staff are to undergo more training to prevent this from occurring in the future.

Cheshire Police refused to release the names of the premises that failed during the operation.

Posting on social media, the force’s Warrington Police team said: “On Friday night, officers from the Warrington west beat team conducted an underage test purchase operation at a number of licenced premises in the Warrington west area.

“Five of the premises visited failed by selling alcohol to an under 18.

“On this occasion, those staff and premises involved will be attending a Challenge 25 retraining programme.”
