A CARELESS driver who caused a pensioner to suffer a number of broken bones has walked free from court with a fine.

At around 11.15pm on Saturday, May 27 last year, Cheshire Police was called to reports of a collision on the A49 Brick Street in Warrington town centre.

Officers attended and found there had been a collision between a BMW 520 and a pedestrian – a 74-year-old man.

The pedestrian sustained a number of serious injuries, including two fractures to the spine and a fractured leg.

Ayas Raqib, of Quebec Road in Orford, was charged in June with causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving.

The particulars of the charge alleged that the 33-year-old, on May 27, 2023, caused serious injury to a man by driving a BMW on the A49 Brick Street without due care and attention.

He appeared before Warrington Magistrates’ Court recently where he entered a guilty plea to the charge.

Magistrates proceeded to sentence him to a fine of £400, as well as ordering him to pay costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £85.

In addition, Raqib was disqualified from driving for the next 12 months.
