UNOCCUPIED units at Time Square could be leased out as offices rather than restaurants.

Documents prepared for this month’s Warrington Borough Council cabinet meeting state that this is a possibility under evaluation.

The flagship, £142million town centre leisure development was completed in 2020.

This saw the construction of a new cinema occupied by Cineworld, as well as business units, the new Warrington Market, council offices, a public square and a multi-storey car park.

A number of units are occupied by the likes of The Botanist, University of Chester, Gravity, Gravity Social, Costello’s, Yum Cha and Hot Pod Yoga.

However, a deal for bar chain Revolution to open fell through, with that unit having been empty for a number of years.

Heavenly Desserts also closed at the precinct, as did Parlour pizza restaurant.

In the council document, an update is given on Time Square, and this reads: “Yum Cha and Hot Pod Yoga are both now open, and the former Parlour unit terms are nearing completion.

“A street café style offering is currently being fitted out for the former Heavenly Desserts unit on the corner of Dolmans Lane and Bridge Street.

“Time Square continues to be a focus of events and activities, which will need to continue.

“We are currently looking at a re-focus on the uses for the empty restaurant units in Time Square. Office use is starting to generate some interest."

Asked specifically on the move towards office use, a council spokesman said: “We are considering how we may use the last remaining vacant units for a range of uses that support the vitality and vibrancy of Time Square and our town centre.

“There is particular interest in flexible office space within the town centre at buildings like The Base.

“There is also interest in office space in Time Square specifically, and we will consider this alongside any other opportunities going forward.”
