AN animal rescue centre says it is ‘deeply concerned’ about a stray dog found in a ‘heartbreaking condition’.

Warrington Animal Welfare, based on Slutchers Lane near the town centre, says a Yorkshire Terrier was brought in after he nearly caused a serious crash.

The dog has months’ worth of matted fur, is underweight and has overgrown claws, while his microchip is unregistered.

Staff say this is not the first time the dog has been found in such a state, and they are looking to ensure he receives the care he deserves.

The centre said: “This poor little pup has been brought to us by a member of the public after being found wandering the streets, nearly causing a serious road traffic accident in the Orford area.

“This little Yorkshire Terrier was in a heartbreaking condition, with matted fur, months’ worth of impacted faeces around his bottom, overgrown claws, is underweight and without a collar.

“Sadly, the microchip is unregistered, so we have not been able to trace the owners.

“We have been informed that this is not the first time this little Yorkie has been out straying. It is deeply concerning to see a pet in such a state.

“The owners will need to contact Warrington Animal Welfare directly on 01925 748637 or send us a private message with a contact number to discuss next steps.

“Let’s work together to make sure this pup gets the help and care he deserves.”
