TWO people – including a five-year-old boy – remain in hospital after suffering serious injuries in a crash.

As previously reported, at around 9.35pm on Friday, emergency services were called to reports of a collision on Birchwood Way.

Officers from Cheshire Police attended the scene and found the collision involved two cars – a black Honda Jazz and a black Skoda Roomster.

Three fire engines from Birchwood, Warrington and Lymm fire stations were also dispatched along with paramedics.

Over the weekend, it was reported by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service that firefighters extricated a trapped casualty, with seven people involved in the crash.

Cheshire Police closed Birchwood Way in both directions for several hours, according to reports from members of the public.

In an update today, Monday, police confirmed that two occupants of the Honda, a five-year-old boy and a 35-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and are currently being treated in hospital.

The driver of the Skoda, a 25-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident.

Enquiries in relation to the serious collision are ongoing, and officers are keen for witnesses, or anyone with information or video that may aid their investigation, to come forward.

Sergeant Jon Dixon said: “This was a serious collision which has left a woman and a child with serious injuries, and we are committed to doing all we can to establish what took place.

“As part of our investigation, we are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage of it.

“We are also keen to hear from anyone who thinks they may have any dashcam footage of the vehicles involved in the minutes prior to the collision.”
