THREE takeaways in Warrington that are all on the same road have been hit with a shocking hygiene rating by inspectors.

Mama Mia, which serves pizza and kebabs, is now the third restaurant on Bridge Street to have received a one-star rating in the past month.

The ratings are issued by the Food Standards Agency and are publicly available online.

Ratings range from five, very good, to zero, requires urgent improvement.

The Food Standards Agency does not disclose the full reasonings behind the ratings, but it does reveal general areas requiring improvement.

Mama Mia was visited by inspectors on July 26 and was found to require ‘major improvement’.

While the hygienic food handling was found to be generally satisfactory, inspectors noted that the cleanliness and condition of the facilities required improvement.

It was also noted that the management of food safety, which included the checks in place to ensure food sold or served is safe to eat, was found to need ‘major improvement’.

Mama Mia’s rating was issued just over a week after its next-door neighbour, Shawarma Express, on July 15.

The takeaway also received the same shockingly low rating when it was inspected.

Despite being found to have ‘very good’ hygienic food handling and ‘generally satisfactory’ cleanliness, it’s management of food safety was also found to require ‘major improvement’.

Just days before on July 11, Rio’s Piri Piri was also given a one-star rating.

The franchise, which has restaurants in Birmingham, Preston and Croydon, was found to require improvement in food handling and management of food safety.
