THREE takeaways in Warrington have been hit with a shocking one-star food hygiene rating after inspections last month.
New River Queen Chinese Takeaway on Lovely Lane was visited by inspectors from the Food Standards Agency on July 11.
The ratings are issued by the Food Standards Agency and are publicly available online.
Ratings range from five, very good, to zero, requires urgent improvement.
The Food Standards Agency does not disclose the full reasonings behind the ratings but does reveal general areas requiring improvement.
The business, which sells Chinese and English food, was issued a one-star rating after it was found to require ‘major improvement’ in both hygienic food handling and cleanliness of the facilities.
The management of food safety, which includes systems or checks in place to ensure food is sold safe to eat, was found to require major improvement.
In the town centre, Rio’s Piri Piri on Bridge Street was hit by a one-star rating after it was also visited by inspectors on July 11.
The franchise, which has restaurants in Birmingham, Preston and Croydon, was found to have ‘generally satisfactory’ cleanliness.
However, inspectors found that improvement was necessary with both hygienic food handling and the management of food safety.
Then, days later, Shawarma Express, which is also on Bridge Street, received the same shockingly low rating on July 15.
Despite being found to have ‘very good’ hygienic food handling and ‘generally satisfactory’ cleanliness, it’s management of food safety was also found to require ‘major improvement’.
The ratings for each takeaway are available to view of the Food Standards Agency website.
