A DRUG driver has been locked up by the courts after crashing a car he was driving without permission.
Daniel Vlonk got behind the wheel of an Audi that he had taken without the consent of the owner in Daresbury.
The 33-year-old was confirmed to have drugs in his system after being arrested by police close to the entrance to the motorway.
He appeared before Crewe Magistrates’ Court after being charged with two counts of drug driving and sole counts of taking a vehicle without consent, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and driving without third-party insurance.
He pleaded guilty to all offences, with the case proceeding to sentence, with Katie Johnson, representing the prosecution, informed the court how the offences were all committed on Sunday, June 2.
At Daresbury Park, he took a grey Audi A6 without the consent of its owner and was involved in a collision at the entrance to the M56.
Checks by police revealed he was driving on a provisional licence, and as a result, he was behind the wheel without third-party insurance coverage.
Moreover, it was confirmed that he has MDMA and cocaine in his blood.
Magistrates gave the defendant credit for his guilty pleas, however they remarked that the severity of his offending merited a custodial term.
Vlonk, previously of Longshaw Street in Dallam, Warrington, but currently of HM Prison Altcourse, was sentenced to eight weeks immediate imprisonment.
He was also disqualified from driving for the next 31 months.
